Meet the investor event a sell-out

July 17, 2009

OUR ‘Meet the Investor’ event which will allow the North-East’s brightest young technology companies to share ideas with three influential business angels has proved such a success it’s already sold out.

The event, on Tuesday July 28, will see the angels outline what they’re looking for in the region’s fledgling technology firms before three investor-ready companies have the chance to pitch to them in private.

Caroline Theobald, managing director of Bridge Club Ltd, which is delivering the CONNECT North East project, said: “Technology firms are telling us they want to meet new investors and markets, so this event is designed to do just that.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the response and already it’s a sell-out, so we’re looking at planning more investor-led events in the future, to ensure technology companies in the North East have the best chance possible chance to find the funding they need to grow.”

John White, founding director of London-based E-Synergy, one of Europe’s leading independent venture capital firms focusing on early stage investments, will share the diverse range of funding opportunities he’s looking for at the event.

Peter Hiscocks

He will be joined by Peter Hiscocks, head of innovation management at the Judge Business School, at the University of Cambridge; principal inventor on six patents and advisory board member of a venture capital company.

Fellow business angel Jonathan Gold, founder of Newcastle-based Finance Tree and a specialist in the commercialisation of cutting edge technologies, will then tell the event about his latest venture firm, Rivers Capital Partners – a newly formed partnership between E-Synergy and Finance Tree aimed at increasing the investment choice for North-East technology firms.

The event follows CONNECT North East’s hugely successful investment conference in April which attracted venture capitalists, Government departments and private and public sector delegates from across the country.

On the back of the investment conference’s success, CONNECT North East has been awarded funding from Nerif (the North East Regional Investment Fund) to continue its vital work to help cutting edge technology companies in the region find the funding they need to become world class leaders.

CONNECT North East will be hosting a series of events over the coming months, designed to attract more investors to the region and introduce talented firms to new markets.
